Assam pepper

Assam pepper is a wild pepper from the Assam region in northern India. It is a subspecies of the long pepper and thus belongs to the true pepper varieties. Assam pepper looks like small blackberries and is dried over an open fire, which gives it a smoky note of tobacco. It also has a slightly numbing and tingling effect, similar to Sichuan pepper. It goes wonderfully with venison, dark meat and all spicy dishes.
