Kukicha besteht vor allem aus den Stängeln und Blattadern von japanischem Grüntee. Da die Stängel weniger Gerbstoffe enthalten als die Blätter, wird der Aufguss mild und weich. Kukicha hat außerdem weniger Koffeein als andere Grüntees. Er schmeckt leicht nussig, hat süßliche Noten und ist sehr ergiebig.
